About Ray Ban:
Ray Ban's iconic collection of sunglasses are the ultimate cool accessories. Whether you're looking for the rock 'n' roll flair of a Wayfarer, or the laid back attitude of an Aviator, Ray Ban is a brand with a long heritage in eyewear - and they've learned a few things along the way.
Beginning in 1936, Ray Ban's innovation spawned the classic Aviator. The tear-drop shape being the most efficient way to block light from entering the eye, it was issued to US pilots. General MacArthurs's aviators, worn landing on the beach during World War 2, furthered civilian demand of the frame and a classic was born. It wasn't until 1952 that Ray Ban developed the Wayfarer, with plastic frames seen as the material of the future. More recently, the brand has seen a huge resurgence with Ray Bans becoming a 'wardrobe staple' for fashionistas; as well as having universal appeal amongst, well, just about everybody. We have seen the re-invention of classic styles, such as wooden and aluminium clubmasters, 'distressed' aviators and wayfarers, and the use of leather on several frames in the collection.
Ray Ban's image has led to the brand being seen in countless films and on the faces of rock stars all over the world - usually without any official Ray Ban input. From the classic Blues Brothers catapulting the Wayfarer into being the musician's sunglass of choice, to the 80s excess of The Wolf of Wall St, Ray Bans are still seen as a way for a character to be portrayed as cool.
