About Ray-Ban:

In 1929, the United States Army Air Corps Colonel John A. Macready worked with medical equipment company Bausch & Lomb based in New York-based to create aviation sunglasses. Colonel Macready explained that pilots needed optical eyewear that would reduce the intense blue and white hues of the sky. Specifically, he raised his concerns about how pilots' goggles fog up and in turn reduce visibility at high altitudes. In response to this Bausch & Lomb, created a prototype in 1936 known as the "Anti-Glare" which had plastic frames and impact-resistant green lenses which could cut out the glare without obscuring the wearer's vision. In 1939, the sunglasses were redesigned with a metal frame and patented as the Ray Ban Aviator.
