Born Karl Anderson Jr. in 1981, Michael Kors chose his name at the age of five when his mother remarried,  he grew up on Long Island and was always interested in fashion. Michael Kors moved to New York and briefly studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology and began working in 1978 at Lothar’s Boutique as a buyer, display director, and designer. His designs were highly coveted and in 1981 Michael Kors Inc was born with a line of womenswear. His designs were celebrated for their beauty and perfection.

As the outright owner of Ray Ban, Persol and Oakley, Luxottica also manufacture under license for Chanel, Prada, Bvlgari, Miu Miu and many more. It was this stable of brands and the undoubted ability to take his eyewear collection to the next level that persuaded Kors to move from the US firm Marchon across the pond to the Italian giant. Although a mega corporation, Luxottica are able to develop relatively small creative teams in their Milan headquarters. These skilled designers, right at the top of the game work closely both with the Michael Kors design teams and indeed the man himself. They collaborate to ensure that the twice yearly eyewear releases are closely matched and inspired by the apparel and accessory items.
