The GG0816S has a slim black leather rectangular frame, inspired by the coveted GG Marmont handbags and accessories collection, the temples have a matelassé quilted effect accented by the Double G hardware on either temple. The translucent-yellow lenses compliment the solid-gold GG emblem perfectly. Gucci is recognised worldwide for its classic double G logo on it’s leather goods - the Gucci brand is known for its uniquely bold designs that are truly luxurious and must have pieces.
These striking chunky frames are right at home as part of our iConnoisseur's Collection - Gucci are known globally for their traditional Italian luxury aesthetic. However, Alessandro Michele has been praised for his work making the fashion house more gender-fluid, unique and fun meanwhile still keeping to the high standard of Guccio Gucci’s original work.
This frame has been inspired by the 60s and 70s, handmade with high-quality acetate and unique artisan-crafted leather materials.
A bit of backstory for the Gucci brand, Guccio Gucci was born in 1881 to a simple Italian leather goods maker. One of his first jobs was as a porter at the Savoy hotel in London where he became obsessed with the glamorous suitcases that the guests arrived with from all over the world. This inspired Guccio Gucci to open his Italian fashion label in 1921 producing luxury travel goods for Italy's wealthy upper-classes, as well as equestrian equipment. Gucci is one of the oldest Italian fashion brands in operation today.
In 2014, Marco Bizzarri became the CEO of Gucci and hired Alessandro Michele as creative director. These two completely redesigned Gucci, preparing it for the next generation by departing from GG’s outdated ideas that were holding the brand back. The design duo removed the historic faces of the brand, such as Jackie Kennedy and Grace Kelly, and replaced them with more modern day celebrities such as Rhianna, Lana Del Rey and Harry Styles.
The Marmont handbag and the interlocking GG leather belt are two of the most popular accessories of 2020 and with the introduction of new colourways for both AW20 and SS21, it doesn’t look like the design is going anywhere.
