Lonchamp began in 1948 when Jean Cassegrain started out with designing leather smoking pipes. He had several successful years in producing the finest smoking products in France and decided to create small leather products. This resulted in the company manufacturing hangbags, clothing and leather footwear. It soon became a major luxury brand , which is now run by the son of the founder of the brand.
The famous logo is taken from the famous race track in Paris called Longchamp ( French for ''Long Field'') . Monsieur Cassegrain - his surname meaning "miller" in French - used to pass in front of an old mill which was next door to the racetrack. The brand name soon became Longchamp, with it being a short trot from the miller to the race track - the rest is history.
